Memorial Day Weekend 2015Memorial Day heralds the arrival of summer, and with the long three-day weekend ahead, you’d be crazy not to take advantage of the many live events happening around the country. Whether you’re a sports nut or a music lover, whether you’re traveling or staying close to home, there’s a great variety of concerts, festivals, playoff games, regular season matchups, and comedy shows on the books for May 22-25.

East Highlights

  • See veterans and fresh faces from the U.K. music scene over Memorial Day weekend 2015 on the East Coast: The Who’s 50th anniversary tour will travel to Atlantic City (and later Mohegan Sun Arena), and Ed Sheeran will deliver his first headlining concert in Maine.
  • In other outdoor concerts, Dave Matthews Band will return home to Virginia for a show at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater in Bristow.
  • New York EDM fans can enjoy the Electric Daisy Carnival festival (with headliners Calvin Harris, Bassnectar, and Tiesto) at MetLife Stadium.
  • From Friday-Sunday, the Boston Red Sox will host the L.A. Angels of Anaheim at Fenway, while over in the Bronx, the New York Yankees are set to retire Bernie Williams’ number on Sunday during their series finale against the Texas Rangers

Midwest Highlights

  • Chicago sports will offer some of the best things to do for Memorial Day weekend 2015 in the Midwest: The Blackhawks will battle the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Meanwhile on the South Side, the White Sox will retire Paul Konerko’s jersey during their Saturday afternoon game against the Twins, and up north, the Cubs will host the Nationals on Memorial Day.
  • The Indy 500, the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, but additional events–like Carb Day and Legends Day–will kick off on Friday.
  • In Midwest concerts, Chicago-area fans can get a blast from the past when New Kids on the Block headline Allstate Arena with support from Nelly and TLC.
  • Over in Ohio, Zac Brown Band will play Cincinnati and Cuyahoga Falls (and later, Pennsylvania) in support of the group’s first new album in three years, “Jekyll + Hyde.”

South Highlights

  • Classic rock vets will be taking over the South during Memorial Day weekend 2015. The Eagles are set to play in Don Henley’s home state of Texas on Friday, and prog-rock fans in the state of Louisiana can indulge in Rush’s 40th anniversary tour in New Orleans the same night.
  • In Houston, Kenny Chesney returns to the road for a headlining show at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday, featuring supporting acts Jake Owen and Chase Rice.
  • Louisiana country music fans will also have the chance to see Chesney perform live during the holiday weekend, as he’s one of the headliners for Bayou Country Superfest, along with Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. (Taylor Swift will kick off the festival ahead of its official opening with her own concert at LSU Tiger Stadium.)

West Highlights

  • Up in the Pacific Northwest, music fans can spend the weekend taking in the sights and sounds of Sasquatch! Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre. The fest will feature headlining sets from Of Monsters and Men, Kendrick Lamar, Modest Mouse, and Robert Plant.
  • U2’s heralded iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour will take over Phoenix’s US Airways Center on Friday and Saturday nights. It’s the band’s first venture since the record-breaking 360 World Tour.
  • The Rolling Stones kick off their Zip Code Tour to PETCO Park on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend 2015, marking the group’s first San Diego show in a decade.
  • Comedian Kevin Hart is on fire with his 2015 arena tour, which he’ll bring to Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday and Sunday.
